Two security personnel were injured during an exchange of fire with terrorists in Bandipora district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday morning, according to police officials.

The gunfight broke out after security forces launched a search operation in the Kulnar Ajas area of Bandipora based on intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the region. “On April 25, 2025, based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Search Operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the general area of Kolnar Ajas, Bandipora. Contact was established, and a firefight ensued,” the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army stated on social media.

Further details about the encounter are awaited as security forces continue their operations.

This incident follows another tragic development on Thursday, when an Army jawan lost his life due to injuries sustained during a separate encounter in Udhampur district. Police had reported that a fierce firefight broke out during a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police in Basantgarh, Udhampur, and one soldier succumbed to grievous injuries.

Amid these developments, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar to assess the region’s security situation, particularly in the aftermath of the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, leaving several others wounded.

In response to the attack, the Indian government has announced a series of diplomatic measures, including the closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, and a reduction in the number of officers in the High Commissions of both countries. These measures have been taken in light of growing nationwide outrage over the Pahalgam attack, which has sparked widespread protests across India, calling for tougher action against Pakistan.
